I was born in Kaliningrad, raised in a few other places within the Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, and have basically spent my entire life in this region of the country. I attended the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, which is probably what Kaliningrad is mostly known for when it comes to educational institutions. With a translator’s diploma, I ventured forth to find the best way my freshly-acquired linguistic skills could be utilized to eventually end up working as a technical translator (manuals, mostly), a journalist, a manager to a writer, a proofreader for an anime magazine, a teacher, and a few other things in between that I’m frankly struggling to remember. I write, I translate, I teach, and, when I’m not too busy with the previous three activities, I draw and paint. I wouldn’t say I’m a professional artist – I still have ways to go before I can truly call myself that – but some of my drawings are okay, I guess, in a so-bad-it’s-good sense of the word. My favorite writers are Harlan Ellison, Edgar Poe, William Faulkner, Truman Capote, A. P. Chekhov, S. D. Dovlatov and H.P. Lovecraft.

Hello, everyone! My name is Svetlana. I teach English and Russian. I studied at Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University in Kaliningrad to become a translator/interpreter. I worked quite a few language-related jobs in my day before I zoomed in on teaching, including a journalist, an editor of an online anime magazine, a technical translator, a ghost-writer, and a promoting agent to a writer. I've been teaching online for about five years on the whole; three of these years I've spent teaching Russian to non-Russian speakers as a freelancer. As a certified linguist, I possess the following skills and experience: - qualifications of a linguist and an intercultural communicator, - 3 years of teaching the Russian language, - 5 years of teaching the English language, - great command of both English and Russian, - a quiet place to conduct lessons from, - lesson plans built up from scratch to fit each and every student's personal needs, - a lot of experience in remote jobs, and, last but not least, - understanding of the Russian culture and cultural specifics When I teach, I try to create a friendly and relaxing environnent for my students, which frequently helps them build motivation. I'm also a good fit for the students who are already determined to study a language and who are not afraid to spend a considerable amount of their time sharpening their language skills.
